The High Peak Cricket Society is delighted to announce its Service to Cricket Award for 2019, "The Norman Harris Trophy", has been awarded to two stalwarts of the Society. Founder members Geoffrey Woolley and Bob Wood are the most worthy recipients of the award and how fitting it is that it comes in the year the Society celebrates its 25th Anniversary.
Geoffrey was elected as Chair of the Society at the first meeting in 1994 and held the post for fourteen years before standing down though remaining on the committee for a further ten years. His commitment, experience and enthusiasm has played a major role in making our Society what it is today and why speakers enjoy so much their visits to the High Peak.
Bob was elected to the committee at the first meeting before becoming Secretary. Like Geoffrey Bob has been a loyal servant of the Society always carrying out his duties conscientiously, tirelessly and diligently. Bob also served the Council of Cricket Societies, now The Cricket Societies Association, with the same devotion when fulfilling the roles of both Secretary and Treasurer. Thanks to Bob we have a web site to be proud of and one we are grateful that he still maintains. Over the years he has never missed an opportunity to sound out potential speakers. Finding speakers gets more and more difficult but Bob has always managed to come up trumps and we are indebted to him for facilitating the many, many wonderful lunches and evening meetings we have had.
To Geoffrey and Bob sincere thanks from the High Peak Cricket Society for all you have done. You are both fine ambassadors for the game we all love.
